The Rants of Issachar

Monday, February 14, 2005

The discussion continues on the free speech rant. It turns out that I may be a classical liberal. Horrors... it seems I may have something in common with CTS. (And he's nuts). :P

and no, everyone does not need a 'token' liberal. Caleb, there are more than just conservative christians in this world.

wow - good think i packed my asbestos underwear today.

I am perfectly aware that there are many many differing viewpoints out there. I haven't posted anything stating otherwise.

As far as gorman being my "token" liberal friend....while said in jest...it is true to a certain point. Most of my friends are conservative....and thats true across the board....among my christian and non-christian friends alike. There's an old saying that I think is very true "If you are conservative when you are young, you have no heart. If you are liberal when you are older you have no brain" I tend to think of gorman as still being in his university liberal stage, but there is hope for him =)

I've known gorman long enough and walked enough pain with him that we can respect (and by respect i mean mock) each others positions comfortably. So yes he is my token liberal.

Caleb ~ perhaps i should adjust my comment. My frustration comes from being a TWU student and being labeled this 'token liberal,' which implies that your view isn't taken seriously, after all it's not essential, its like a gift, it's a token. Liberals have run our country for the last ten years, we should probably take their views seriously, even if the vast majority of the people we surround ourselves with, (saddingly) are conservatives. Is it possible to be a Christian Conservative? :)

drea -
I'll address the "is it possible to be a conservative christian?" question a bit later...but real quick first let me say that as I am not a canuckistanian when i say "liberal" i'm referencing the liberal school of thought not any particular political party. just so we're talking apples to apples.
