And in other news... Bears do crap in the woods!
It turns out that, yes, the Pope is Catholic.
I've been meaning to write about this since the "protests" erupted following Pope Bennedict's speech, but I kept thinking that all I was saying was "me too", and adding my voice to the noise. Maybe I still am, but no one's forcing you to read this. :)
I've said it before, but Islam needs to adapt to the modern world. It's not going away, and there's no special place for Islam in it. Shabayek's comment on that post was appreciated, but not exactly encouraging. Muslim's absolutely need to accept the idea that violence is a completely unacceptable response to someone maligning Islam, Mohammed, the Koran, Allah or anyone else.
And that's not even getting into the fact that the Pope wasn't rabbidly smearing Islam. The great thing about the internet is that you don't need to read a synopsis of what the Pope said, you can read the whole thing yourself.
The responses in the Muslim world are... disappointing. I'm not going to going into all the details on that because I'm sure you know them, (and if you don't I'm sure it's on Wikipedia somewhere). However it is clear, that the Pope's apology for the offense taken is not being accepted. The problem is that that's the limit of what the Pope can say.
He's the leader of the Roman Catholic Church. (Which brings me back to my first line). He's not going to say that Islam is the truth. He believes, (as do all Christians), that Mohammed was a false prophet. If the Muslim world is going to riot everytime a Christian leader refuses to accept Islamic demands for dominance, then we're going to have a problem.
